Annamacharya jayanthi celebrated

New Delhi: The 604th Annamacharya Jayanthi of the great Telugu saint composer of the 15th century Sri Tallapaka Annamacharya, was celebrated at Sri Devi Kamakshi Mandir, Aruna Asaf Ali Marg on Sunday .
It was organised jointly by the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthasnam, which is holding an Annamacharya music summer camp at Devi Kamakshi Mandir, from May 3; Annamayya Gana Sudha and Sri Sankara Academy of Sanskrit Culture and Fine Arts.
On this occasion, the TTD coordinator and Coach Garemella Kalyani and her disciples rendered Annamacharya sankeertanas. Prof. E. Muralidhar Rao of Sri Venkateswara College , was the chief guest for the celebrations.

He distributed prizes to the winners of music competitions conducted for various categories of participants and spoke on the significance and greatness of the works of saint Annamacharya.
He praised the participants, which included many children, for evincing keen interest in learning Annamacharya keertanas.
The camp will conclude today (Tuesday).

హస్తినలో అలరించిన అన్నమయ్య
అన్నమయ్య గాన సుధ, ఢిల్లీ వారి ఆధ్వర్యంలో శ్రీమతి గరిమెళ్ళ కళ్యాణి గారు అన్నమయ్య కీర్తనల వేసవి శిక్షణా శిబిరం మే 16 నుండి జూన్ 13 , 2010 వరకు నిర్వహించారు. ముఖ్యంగా శ్రీ శంకర అకాడెమీ ఆఫ్ సాంస్క్రిట్ కల్చర్ & క్లాసికల్ ఆర్ట్స్ ( శ్రీ దేవి కామాక్షి మందిరం) వారు మరియు తిరుమల తిరుపతి దేవస్థానములు వారి సహాయ సహకారములతో ఈ కార్యక్రమాలు విజయవంతంగా నిర్వహించ బడ్డాయి. దాదాపు యాభై మంది శిష్యులు అన్ని వయసుల వారు, తెలుగేతరులు కూడా ఎంతో ఆసక్తితో పాల్గొన్నారు.
శ్రీ వెంకటేశ్వరుని విశ్వరూప దర్శనమునకు అన్నమయ్య సంకీర్తనమే సాధనము. "ఒక్క సం కీర్తనే చాలు వొద్దికై మమ్ము రక్షించగ “ అని కదా అన్నమయ్య భావన. అటువంటి పద కవితా పితామహుని సంకీర్తనలను అందరికి నేర్పించాలనే సదుద్దేశంతో ఈ కార్యక్రమం నిర్వహించడం జరిగింది. శిబిరంలో అంతర్భాగంగా మే 9 న అన్నమయ్య కీర్తనలు పాడగలిగిన వారికి పోటీలు, మే 15 న అన్నమయ్య జయంతి ఉత్సవాలు నిర్వహించ బడ్డాయి. శ్రీమతి గరిమెళ్ళ కళ్యాణి గారు వారి శిష్య బృందం అన్నమయ్య కీర్తనలు వీనుల విందుగా ఆలపించారు. పాటల పోటీలో పాల్గొన్నవారికి బహుమతులను శ్రీ తాళ్ళపాక అన్నమయ్య వంశజులలోని 12 వ తరంవారైన శ్రీ హరి నారాయణాచార్యులు తిరుపతినుండి పంపించారు. మే 23 వ తేదిన స్థానిక ఢిల్లీ తెలుగు సంఘం వారు ఆంధ్రప్రదేశ్ భవన్ లో నిర్వహించిన అన్నమయ్య జయంతి ఉత్సవాలలో భాగంగా శ్రీమతి కల్యాణి గారు తమ శిష్య బృందంతో కలసి సుమారు 15 అన్నమయ్య కీర్తనలను గానంచేసి శ్రోతలను ఆనంద సాగరంలో ఓలలాడించారు.
వేసవి శిక్షణా శిబిరం ముగింపు సమావేశ సభ జూన్ 13, 2010 న, మొదటినుండీ ఈ కార్యక్రమాలన్నింటికీ వేదికయైన శ్రీ దేవి కామాక్షి మందిర ప్రాంగణంలో జరిగింది. శిక్షణా శిబిరంలో నేర్చుకున్న కొన్ని కీర్తనలను శిష్యులు జంటలు జంటలుగా పాడి వినిపించారు. అనంతరం తమ గురువు శ్రీమతి గరిమెళ్ళ కళ్యాణి గారితో కలసి మరికొన్ని కీర్తనలను బృందగానం చేశారు. ఈ కార్యక్రమానికి ముఖ్య అతిధి గా విచ్చేసిన శ్రీ ఎం. వి. రామారావు గారు అన్నమయ్య కీర్తనలను అందరకీ నేర్పి, ప్రచారం చేయాలనే తపన, దీక్షతో కూడిన శ్రీమతి కళ్యాణి గారి కృషిని ఎంతగానో ప్రశంశించారు.

602nd Sri Tallapaka Annamacharya Jayanthi Celebrations in Delhi
The 602nd Sri Tallappaka Annamacharya Jayanthi Celebrations will be held at the Kamakshi Amman Mandir, opposite JNU East Gate, New Delhi on the 16th of May 2010. The Annual Day Celebrations of Annamayya Gana Sudha, started by a small group of music enthusiasts learning Annamayya Sankeerthanams from the revered Guru Smt. Garimella Kalyani, is also being organized on the same day.
The Free Summer Camp sponsored by the Tirumala Tirupathi Devasthanam to teach Annamacharya Sankeerthanams to music enthusiasts at Kamakshi Amman Temple in New Delhi last year on 12th May initially started with a small group of students. As the information about the camp spread across all corners of Delhi, the size of the batch quickly grew to forty. The enthusiastic response to the camp inspired Smt. Kalyani to conduct free sessions on Annamyya Sankeerthanams on Fridays at the Kamakshi Amman Temple all round the year. These free classes, handled by the ever smiling, devoted Guru Smt. Garimella Kalyani, regularly attract learners across Delhi on every Friday.
The success of this programme is evident from the fact that even children as young as 5 and 6 years are able to learn and enjoy singing the great compositions of Annamayya in their daily life. Another highlight of this programme is that even people without even basic knowledge and training in music can learn and sing the sankeerthanams with ease. This is due to the ability of the Guru to explain the meaning of the sankeerthanams in an interesting and easy to understand language. In the words of the Guru, “Annamayya never left any mudra or unique style of composition in his songs as many other composers of carnatic music did. The sankeerthanams are composed in simple style which even an amateur can sing and enjoy”. Annamayya’s greatness also becomes apparent in the way he describes Lord Venkateswara. In the song “Muddugare Yesoda”, beautifully compares the Lord to navratnas or the nine precious stones. In another song he describes the feet of the Lord with the words “Bramha Kadigina Padamu” in simple but yet elegant way. The Guru quotes quite often that Annamayya surrendered completely to become one with the Lord. The Lord Venkateswara impressed with his intense devotion gave his glimpse to Annamayya and blessed him with all the good in the world.
The works of Annamayya, inscribed on copper plates and hidden in the pillars in the Sanctum Sanctorum of the Tirumala Tirupathi Temple, were discovered by scholars such as Sri. Veturi Prabhakara Sastry and Sri. Rallapalli Anantha Krishna Sarma and later popularized by famous musicians like Sri.Balamurali Krishna and Smt.M.S. Subbulakshmi. It has become a tradition at the Lord Balaji temple at Tirumala to sing Annamayya’s keerthanas everyday during evening Arthi. Words cannot describe the greatness of Annamayya who has composed close to 35,000 songs. The Tirumala Tirupathi Devasthanams has started conducting music festival every year on Annamayya’s Jayanthi (birthday) to honor him the way Saint Thyagaraja is honored at Tiruvayyar by conducting gana goshti (group singing). During these celebrations Sapthagiri songs, a collection of seven songs, are sung by hundreds of devotees. Guru Garimella Kalyani has only one aim i.e., “to make as many people to sing Annamayya songs as possible” in her classes. Let Annammaya live long in the minds of people and sing songs in praise of the Lord.
